Saxton Oval, Nelson

January 15- 17th, 2016.

The Tasman Children’s Athletic Committee cordially invite all registered athletes in Grades 7–14 to participate in the 2016 South Island Colgate Games to be held in Nelson.

Saxton Oval is a conjoined facility with Cricket. It has four rows of uncovered seating down the length of the front straight. The committee is suggesting that clubs bring a tent for their athletes which will be able to be erected on an area allocated to the club outside the perimeter fence of the track. There is no area available that is covered for athletes to get out of the sun.

The track is of Mondo construction. Spike lengths are 7mm on track & at long jump runway, 9mm at high jump. Spikes must be cone/pyramid shaped or Xmas Tree. A perimeter fence goes around the track with a Pavilion running the length of the front straight. Toilets & changing rooms are allocated at each end of the pavilion. Areas around the cricket side of the pavilion are out-of-bounds. Training areas will be clearly marked in the Program, but please be advised that athletes warming-up must have an adult in attendance.

Parking is available on several sides of the track, but there is further parking around other sporting codes within a short walk to the track.

Officials – An invitation to officials will be on the website from August, please if you are available to help with this weekend the Committee would be most appreciative.

Accommodation – It is advised that you book early as this weekend in Nelson is particularly busy due to it being a holiday destination for many. There are a number of motels in Richmond, Stoke & Tahuna all within 5-10 minute drive to the track & also in Nelson, a 15 minute drive. For caravaning, tenting & chalet accommodation Tahuna Beach Holiday Park is worth consideration.

T.Shirts/Souvenirs/Entry Passes/Programmes will be available on Thursday 14th January at the ground from 11am. We are investigating the possibility of on-line ordering. A room in the pavilion will be set aside for the purchase of these items.

Communication – Clubs intending to be represented please advise the Colgate Secretary of your Clubs details – we require an email & postal address.

Rubbish- We endeavour to be environmentally friendly. The committee asks that you take your daily rubbish away with you. We will have wheelie bins around the track, due to the lack of rubbish bins.

Security – Although the track is fenced off, it is your responsibility to take home all belongings overnight. Regular security inspections will be made during the night so tents will be able to remain standing.

First Aid – We will have a local ambulance on site. This will be manned by two officers throughout the three days, but if you have an athlete injured, please ensure that an adult is in attendance.
